Stage 3: Owasco Challenge Road Race

Let's be up front....the Owasco Challenge Road Race is physically demanding and we will compared this course to any other in the state in terms of quality and quantity. Let's put it this way, do this race and you will sleep very well Sunday night.

By all accounts our 2007 Road Race was a keeper. The course has quality parcours and a suitable distance to give you a real workout on a Sunday morning. However we did tinker with the finish, which we are happy to say has returned back to the entrance at Emerson Park.

All classes get to enjoy a traditional single looped course. The Womens Open, Citizens Open  and Cat 5/Jrs classes will do a 40 mile loop, the Cat 4 men and Masters 40+ classes are fitted to a 57 miles loop and the Pro 1-2 and Cat 3 men get a sufficient 71 mile loop. You can check out the maps and profiles below. The vertical climbing is 3089ft, 4095ft and 5346ft for the respective courses. View updated PDF Q-sheets for each inidividual race here

There will be four climbs used to determine the King and Queen of the mountains based on a points system as outlined in the Race Bible. Referencing the main  elevation profile, riders will tackle Long Hill (1.2 mi / 7.6% grade @ the 16 mile mark)Murray Hill (.3mi /15% grade at the 42 mile mark), Twelve Corners Rd (.7 mi / 7.6% grade @ the 44 mile mark) and the Crest of the last hill on North Rd  (about 5 miles from the finish line) to settle that contest.

There will be no intermediate sprint contest and no time bonuses in this year's road race.

Also, Google Earth is a great tool to visualize the road courses. If you have high speed internet and Windows XP, we recommend that you download the program. It's free! Fortunately, the satellite mapping for our area provides very detailed information. Just query Emerson Park, Auburn, NY

Pro 1-2 and Men's Cat 3 Road Race Course

This course has two unique sections that are distinctly different from the other race courses. Pro 1-2 and Cat 3 men approach Rockefeller Rd from a different direction. Two miles after the start, both classes turn LEFT onto Swartout Rd (2), RIGHT onto North Rd (3) and RIGHT onto Route 38A (4). *Note a change from the 2007 course* The extra loop completed toward the end of last years race is now completed before heading south on Rockefeller Rd to Moravia. After completing the loop (points 4 through 8), the race proceeds to points 9 and 10 then left onto Rockefeller Rd. From this point on your race mirrors the Cat 4 Men and Masters 40+ course.
